Artist Copy Process

In class, we are working on an artist copy, where we draw a figure drawing from a Renaissance artist and try to learn their mark. I chose the artist Bronzino, and I'm drawing a Man holding a pipe. The medium I am using is Conte Crayons, which I am not extremely familiar with. To start, we correctly sized the paper and made a grid so it was easier to recreate. Throughout this process, I have learned how to work with this new medium and also how to recreate the artist's mark. Bronzino uses a blend of hatching and cross-hatching to get the figure's flow and the different tones. I found this project very helpful in working on proportions and getting the body's natural flow. I struggled to keep it light, as I was starting with a heavy hand. Although I didn't complete the piece, I learned the artist's mark and am ready to use it in my own figure drawing.
