Gone: An Historical Romance of a Civil War as It Occurred Between the Dusky Thighs of One Young Negress and Her Heart
I really liked how this piece took up an entire room, and it even extended to other walls. I like how it works together as one piece but can also be separated into a bunch of mini pieces. I think the black figures on the white wall helps balance the busyness of the cutouts. I think her intention for showing the impacts of slavery really show in her work, as even without words and facial expressions, the body language tells a lot.
The second artist I looked at was Yoko Ono who is a Japanese Multi media artist. Her art showcases performance art and filmmaking.
1966
Refugee Boat
I really like the monochrome color scheme and how it ties into the concept of a boat. The simplistic boat goes well with the busy patterns and colors. She shows ideas of peace and solitary in this artwork as well as difficulties with anxiety. This isn't my favorite piece but I think it shares the message very well.
