Wayne Thiebaud is an American painter who paints still lifes of common objects such as pie, lipstick, cake, and ice cream. He also explored with landscapes that merged the line between reality and memory. His work depicts themes of American consumer culture and nostalgia. Light, texture, and color are common themes throughout his paintings.



Background:

1942-1945: serve in the US army in the Special Services Division as a cartoonist

1949: went to Sacramento State College

1951-1960: taught art at Sacramento State College

I enjoy how vibrant his paintings are and the use of color. I think his style is very unique, as it is still realistic but has an interesting looseness. It creates a more nostalgic feelings and evokes memories of childhood. I want to incorporate his use of color in my still lives, as it adds more dimension to the piece.
