I found the art conservator to be very interesting. This job repairs and preserves work of art. They sometimes apply treatments to art to preserve it for the future. They have to be able to determine when a piece of art is in need of fixing and know how to properly restore it. To become an art conservator, having a masters degree in art conservation or a related field is needed. Many art conservators start with an art degree and then go into a chemistry degree. Both of these are very helpful when working in the field as the chemistry aspect of it helps with repairing art and knowing how different mediums and substances react with one another. Having an art degree helps with the detail side of it and being able to recognize the wear in art pieces. Rhode Island School of Design, in Providence, Rhode Island is known for its art school. Schools like Berkeley and Stanford are known for their Chemistry degrees. The University of Delaware is also a good school to go to if you want to become an art conservator. An art conservator is responsible for preserving art, but also documenting their findings and how they treated the piece. This can help in the future when repairing a similar work or help future conservators.
