Going to the visual art center was very interesting, as I saw what separated a good piece from a great piece. All the art was very different, as it ranged from paintings, to sculpture, and even to weaving. When looking in the gold key gallery, I realized most of the artworks had an interesting composition or design element. This included cool perspectives with lots of foreshadowing and interesting light sources. I found it interesting that the majority of the pieces depicted human figures, and not many were abstract. I think it really shows what the judges interests were that year, and how that can influence the pieces chosen. Overall I learned that craftsmanship is only a small factor, as all the pieces had a beautiful design, but composition was really what stood out.
