Figure Drawing Reflection

This was my fourth time doing figure drawing and I definitely saw improvement. From the start, my gesture drawings had much more movement, and the searching lines were more evident. I remember my past gesture drawings being very heavy-handed, and this year I tried to make them lighter. This helped me build on them, especially during the 10-minute and 1-hour studies. The 10-second drawings really helped with my ability to see the figure's movement and use a singular line to express this. Even throughout the two weeks, I saw a lot of improvement. My first contour drawing had very harsh and dark lines, but as I continued practicing, my lines became clearer and sharper. This helped me build on the lines and didn't limit me. When we did value, I tried to look at the shapes the light and dark values made, rather than outlining an eye or nose. This was difficult because it didn't look like a face right away. After a while, though, I was able to get the overall shape of the shadows, which brought the 3-dimensional of the figure to life.
