Project #2 Process Post

This project I am painting an assembly of candies to evoke feelings of nostalgia. I chose candy that reminds me of my grandparents and the candy they have in bowls. I also chose candies that I thought would create interesting reflections and have value, as it was my student goal. Setting up the still life and coming up with objects to paint was the hardest part of this process. I always struggle to find pieces that I enjoy painting, but also that are interesting on a canvas. When creating the composition, I went back and forth on how I wanted the candy to be laid out. Eventually, I decided to make my still life very close up, leaving very little negative space. I wanted to focus on the details and make the piece look full. So far, I have done the base layer, where I paint in the big blocks of color. I started adding some broad light and dark values to get the overall shapes filled in.
