Background:

She is a painter and drawer who uses bold color, geometric shapes, and overlapping techniques to showcase her still lifes. Her love for art started at a young age when she would watch PBS art shows. She attended the California College of the Arts in San Francisco and was awarded the San Francisco Arts Commission's Murphy and Cadogan Fellowship. She is also a founder of Binder of Women, which is a group of Los Angeles female artists. She started her career making abstract collage pieces, using paper, spray paint, and ink. Later, she transitioned to painting, but kept the same vibrant and bold style of her previous work. Her main subjects are landscapes and still lives, generally of her own home. Because she focuses on one object at a time, her still lifes have a unique perspective.

Although her style isn't hyper-realistic, I really like her use of color and the reflections on the vase. Her bold colors draw the eye around the piece and the vibrant flowers really stand out against the muted background. I like how the highlights are very sharp and geometric, making them pop. I dislike her composition though, as it is very central. I wish there was more overlapping and items flowing off the edge.

I really like how the reflections looks in the glasses. The distorted shapes and bright colors add another layer of interest to the painting. Even the small images in the spoon are very satisfying. I want to explore adding images within reflections as it adds more depth to the piece.
