For my summer project, I wanted to make a painting that continued my theme of collections. When deciding what items to use, I was really stuck. I wanted all the items to go together in some way so that there was a story behind the still life. I originally wanted to paint cards and coins but decided that color was a big part of my pieces. This led me to transition to childhood items. I chose things that I have collected as a child and items that are commonly liked by children. I took sea glass, candy, buttons, and crayons and assembled them on the floor as if the items where falling out of a container. When arranging the items, I used a technique I have previously used. This involves placing the items in front of a window and letting the sun directly hit them to create interesting highlights and shadows. To start my piece, I prepared my canvas by sanding it and priming it. Then I sketched out the image.
